Chamonix 2016 – Abstract
Every year since 1946, they have carved a grotto into the glacier at Mer du Glace. Inside are ice sculptures, illuminated with coloured lights. Not only does glacial ice have an incredible blue colour, it also has a very strange texture – almost like plastic. Seeing the tiny air bubbles in the ice, trapped during the last ice age, makes you feel quite insignificant in geological terms!
